HeyRick Various Dependencies
============================

Introduction
------------
As you can see by looking at the contents of this archive, there are
over 3Mb of COMPRESSED resources - DLLs, OCXs, etc.

Now, we can handle this in one of two ways:

The old (illogical) way is to supply all of the necessary resources
with each program. Thus, every program will work straight 'out of the
box' first time. On the downside, what may be a 200K program could be
saddled with ten to fifteen TIMES that in resources. And if you decide
to try out a number of my offerings, then you might easily spend time
and money downloading what could easily work out to be 20Mb of
rubbish - the same stuff you already have.

The new (logical) way is to separate the resources from the software.
Thus, you must download and install THIS software FIRST, and then you
may freely download and install any other package of mine and it
should behave as desired (runs straight 'out of the box') only without
the unwanted baggage.

How to tell if you need to install this
---------------------------------------
If you run a program of mine and it complains about a missing resource
(such as a DLL or OCX). Install THIS and it'll work.

What if you already have some of this stuff?
--------------------------------------------
These resources are fairly typical to Microsoft Automation software,
this means stuff written in Visual Basic or the like. Chances are you
will have some of these resources already installed. It may be that
you can install and use much of my software without worrying about
this update. Give it a try - all that'll happen if you don't have the
required resource is you'll get an error saying so...

If you have an EARLIER version of the resource, it will be updated
with the newer version provided here.

If you have a LATER version of the resource, you may be prompted if
you wish to keep or replace the resource (always keep your newer
version!), or it may simply skip the file. I don't mean to be vague,
it is simply not something that is easy to 'test' under Windows!

If you have an automatic installation manager...
------------------------------------------------
These resources are poked into Windows and Windows\System; they are
NOT specific to any particular application (and are not specific to
my applications - they may be used by a great number of Windows
programs).
Therefore it is advisable that you disable your automatic
installation manager. The one I use, PCCLEANER, copies DLLs and such
into the application directory and maintains a list of potentially
clashing resources. As there is no application directory and as these
resources are not application specific, such an action will simply
not be useful (or work!).

Installing
----------
Unzip all of the files in this archive to a suitable temporary
directory on your harddisc. I might suggest "C:\Temp\VarDep" or the
like.
Run the SETUP.EXE program.
Read the on-screen instructions.

Once setup has completed successfully, you may delete all of these
files in your temporary location - they are no longer required.

Uninstalling
------------
Uninstallation is not possible. No actual application is installed,
only a number of resources internal to Windows (i.e. MSComCtl.ocx),
and it is not advisable to delete these once they've been installed.

Support
-------
No end-user support is offered. This is just an installer!

Licence
-------
All copyright and titles in these resources belongs to Microsoft.
I have only made minor modifications to "setup1" for the purposes of
this installation, the software itself was written by Microsoft.
